"Dick Van Dyke tai Gojira" ("Dick Van Dyke vs. Godzilla")

Morning of March 7, 1970. Saturday.

Dick Van Dyke was one of the only celebrities that appeared (with any consistency) in my dreams during certain time periods as a younger child. He was always very friendly and seemingly interested in my life, almost like a “guide”. In the Godzilla and King Kong dream, he is telling me the history of the two movie monsters in a somewhat realistic (but likely fictional) way. This was likely influenced by his role as the narrator in the 1970 television airing of “Born Free”. He even relates the supposed “personality” traits of King Kong and Godzilla, a sort of comparing and contrasting session at a park, and he does this quite cheerfully and patiently as the dream unfolds. There is actually no threatening appearance by either of the monsters, though.

In real life, when I saw a fictional poster of the real King Kong (from the original “King Kong” movie) superimposed with Godzilla (from an issue of “Famous Monsters of Filmland”) to falsely imply that King Kong was not actually a silly-looking man-in-a-costume routine in the Godzilla movie, I did not fully associate it with the name “Godzilla” or what he/she/it actually was. When I saw that, I called it a dragon, even saying “I like the dragon”. My friend Steve J nodded as we were leaving the classroom, and he said, “Uh-huh, that’s Godzilla”, and so my interest in Godzilla grew from there. (This was unusual in that in reality, the dragon was a symbol of my fairly rare sleep apnea - where I felt I was slipping away and needed to actively and consciously “reignite” my life force to “return” from seeming death - this has only happened an average of once a year or so and associated with eating too close to bedtime, I think.)

Later, when I actually watched “Kingu Kongu tai Gojira” (made in 1962 and apparently first released on the 26th of June, 1963 in the USA) on television, with my father, we laughed our heads off. It is a monster movie, I guess, but listed as a comedy on IMDb.
