An Attempt at Spinning

Morning of October 19, 1989. Thursday.

Many years ago, when I did not know any better, I sometimes practiced something I read in a so-called guide related to dreaming, which of course, an experienced adult would immediately discard. This “information” (read theoretical tripe) often related to enhancing lucid dreams, which sometimes created the opposite effect in my own experiences. Still, almost everything “worked” in a way (though only as a placebo) for a short time, other than binaural beats which only serve to cause me irritation and a very unpleasant “fluttering” effect nearly identical to rapidly slapping a hand against each ear for several minutes after the headphones are off. That, and the fact that almost everything I have seen online concerning the term “binaural” is either misinformation (or misunderstood) or in direct contradiction to other “information” - but placebo is placebo - “sugar pills” can work wonders and be very “convincing” with even a little push by belief or faith. I knew of one person who sold “diet pills” (the commonly produced fake kind made of mostly caffeine) as street-grade speed, and he never had any complaints, which says a lot about human nature. As such, as stated before, simply thinking (direct use of intent via an active thought process) is the most powerful method to dreaming primarily anything you want (even over the special affirmation sessions I indulge in), especially with the proper visual meditations and mantras (usually the manifestation of my first dream of the night which are often very similar and blissful and which I do not typically post online). What you look at the longest is what you “see” and which will reside in the mind’s eye. Why would people be surprised by this?

In this dream, I become lucid, though my awareness shifts at times, though I remain in my dream. It is near a wharf, likely near the Black River in La Crosse. I am developing an attempt to meet and be romantic with the “mystery girl” who is in a lighter-colored ballroom gown (though she vanishes during the spinning fiasco to follow).

I focus on the idea of “spinning”, which is something I read about at least once during this time period though I am not even sure if I understand the actual associations with what meaning or effort as such is implied - I simply take it to mean to move about (or whirl about) on your axis. Even so, when I am on the wharf, I start to will myself to spin around like a whirlwind. Over time, this does make me a little more aware, but not by much. I begin to see patterns that resemble comic-book-like lines that usually represent tornadoes and whirlwinds. After a time, I see objects moving around me as if I were an anthropomorphic miniature tornado with random objects orbiting me as with a planet. I even notice an upright piano moving in a circle around me - though it begins to look like a cartoon - even with animated music notes also being “trapped” in “my” whirlwind and tumbling about.

After several minutes, mostly only the head of the Disney character Pete (also called Peg-Leg Pete, Big Bad Pete, and Black Pete among other names) appears. I do not really feel threatened. In fact, I start to contemplate a possible conversation with him (almost forgetting I am dreaming), but Mickey Mouse and Goofy eventually appear in this faux tornado (only the three characters in total - I am not aware of any others - and Pete is actually the most distant from the other two) while more distortion ensues until I wake with abstract thoughts. That was the last time I attempted the so-called spinning technique. It is probably from seeing numerous animations of cartoon characters fighting (including cartoon cats), where “tornadoes” result and with fists and heads and such emerging at times at random angles - the imagery that automatically now comes to mind when I think of “spinning”.
