Wooden Bridge Mishap of a Friend

Morning of September 18, 2013. Wednesday.

This newest dream seems to contain both fictional “secret places of power” that have been recurring for nearly a lifetime. Normally, one area is in Wisconsin and one in Florida, but in this particular dream they seem to be in the same region (but on opposite ends of a more normal or mundane area with the two special areas to the north and south of it). The detail is usually the same in dreams, as if the special isolated areas actually existed somewhere, and it usually creates a particular awareness in my dream which is usually different than the environments of most other dreams. It is primarily based on the Enchanted Forest from Harvey Comics.

Part of this dream involves hand-washing about four or five darker (blacks, browns, darker blues) pairs of my socks in the house in Wisconsin. There is the idea that I had or I will travel more to the north for some reason, but that is not quite clear. I get an old familiar idea that I have had in many other dreams - that I will fly about and live and sleep in the trees and wander about mostly only at night, as the idea of paying $15.00 a month(?) to live with mostly street people (mostly older males) does not appeal to me at all.

Eventually, I become aware that I will be exploring the fictional area in Florida with Rick S, a friend from my young-adult years that I sometimes still “talk to” on Facebook these days. When we approach the area that will eventually lead into the secret area, there is first a strange newer wooden bridge. This bridge does not seem at all suitable for cars as the wood is more like thinner plywood and it does not seem quite wide enough for cars and people to cross at the same time. I am aware, though, that they are probably working on the bridge and the plywood is only temporary until they put in an actual foundation and real road for cars.

Rick S and I sort of jog over the first sections and turns, heading east to the wondrous place, but it seems there is some concern by Rick that a car or two may be coming up behind us from the west, but I do not see or hear one (and besides, what idiot would drive his car over a plywood bridge?). I move along evenly, easily running over an area where a smaller section of wood is missing near the railing to my right (supposedly only about as wide as a person’s waist - but it does look only big enough for one leg to go through at one point, really). I soon realize, though, that Rick may not see it if he is not watching where he is going. Sure enough, when he reaches the small open area, he somehow falls perfectly straight through to the ground below (only a moment before I start to warn him), about twenty feet, immediately beginning to scream and moan in pain. For a short time, I think about just going on by myself, especially as I am aware of a farm below, and people are likely walking around, and twenty feet somehow does not seem that far to fall.

I look down through the gap and notice that he had picked up the section of plywood that had likely fallen from the bridge a few days prior and which likely caused the gap - and he uses it to saw off the tail of a dog that is watching a rather sparse flock of sheep. I feel a bit embarrassed by this when I see a woman from the east approaching to see what is going on. I am certain he will get into trouble. However, she does not seem at all concerned about the dog (or even notice much). I ask Rick if he had broken his leg. I ask him several times, but do not get any clear answer. Eventually I somehow reach down, and with the help of the woman, we manage to get him back up through the hole, which, at this point, the ground seems only about an extra two feet (plus the height of a person) from where he fell. I then think that, as such, it would have been impossible to get hurt from so short a fall.

He sits down to rest and look at his leg and I am very annoyed that my dream will likely end before we get to the “secret place of power” to enjoy the vast, amazing scenery and absorb the healing energy and maybe discover valuable items. The left side of his left knee, by the kneecap, comes off in four or five smaller ceramic-like pieces which he turns around in his hand with a slight concern. I am not sure if we will be going to the hospital from that point when my dream fades.

The part with the dogs tail being sawed off with the piece of plywood was suggested as a play on “it won’t be long now”. It probably also has something to do with the idea of “what are you made of” - “puppy dog tails” - especially as Rick seemed to be partly made of ceramic or have a ceramic knee.
