The Elves.

We first met on the bank of the river that winds behind my work. During my one hour breaks, I seek refuge next to the water in the forest. I like to meditate there. Dip my feet into the frigid water. Relax.
Just beginning meditation, i felt a tug on my arm and opened one eye... there he was... the elf, one of many I encounter now. He motioned to follow after him, off the beaten path of the river and into a field. I did not feel scared, but more curious as I trudged close behind.

I kept my eyes on him, but the field was wet against my bare feet.
I stopped. He disappeared.

Disappointed, I headed back to work. Feeling a bit shaken, I questioned my sanity... as I still do. However, I've always had a strong belief in elves and distinctly remember as a child blaming elves for lost possessions... which leads into my next encounter.

This one happens at my workplace, in the back room. I was wearing a pair of flip-flops and sitting at a table. No body was around. Again, I feel a tug, but this time on my foot. The elf slipped my right sandal off and proceeded to walk away. The elf had a very glum expression, and walked somberly towards the window. Within an instant, he was gone... along with my shoe. Now, I panic. I work in my parents restaurant and explaining that I only have one shoe because an elf stole it isn't an appealing option. I decide to search frantically through the room and find my shoe under a large stack of cardboard boxes on the opposite side of the room.

I have plenty of encounters, but I will just write one more in this post, so that I don't overwhelm it.

Yesterday, I had court. (Petty theft back in June) Cops, and courts, and the legal system have always made me extremely nervous, so naturally my legs were shaking and my palms were sweaty. The judge talked on and on and I felt a tingle through my hand. I peered down and an elf held my hand tight in its. The clerk called me to the stand, and the elf held my hand as the judge delivered my punishment.

We walked out of the courtroom. I took a seat in the hallway and once my legs started to calm down and my hands stopped sweating, it let go and walked on and out of sight.

I constantly question if the elves are merely a manifestation of my mind, or if they actually co-exist in the physical world and only show themselves to certain folks. The elves are tricky, but they have never harmed me, they have shown me beautiful places and eased my mind.
