One night, many years ago, I had a dream while visiting friends on Salt Spring Island on the West Coast of British Columbia. In the dream I encountered an old friend of mine from high school. It was a joyous reunion and I introduced my friend to my partner, Nova.
When I woke up I remembered the dream, but I couldn't remember who my friend was... his face was blurry. I immediately told Nova about the dream.
Hours later my friends and I were driving into the small village of Ganges (how ironic). One of my friends had gone to high school with me so I told everyone in the car about the dream I had had. I should mention here that I went to high school in Toronto which was 4,000 km away, and that I graduated almost 10 years earlier.
Shortly after arriving in Ganges, we walked down to the docks. I suddenly heard someone calling my name. I turned around to discover James, one of my best friends from high school. I was so excited to see him I had completely forgotten about the dream. He told me he had moved to Salt Spring from Toronto a few years ago. I then introduced him to my partner Nova.
It was in that moment of introduction that I was hit with the experience.... the dream I had was playing itself out in reality. We were all amazed.
This experience of pre-cognition challenged my notion that time was linear, and begged me to ask if everything was pre-destined. Can timelines be changed? Perhaps there are multiple timelines.
I haven't had a pre-cognition experience since that one, but I have collected many stories of people who have. Some, it seems, are more apt at pre-cognition. Most people have never experienced pre-cognition and those that do tend to have just one or two experiences over their lifetimes.
People have asked me: "would you like to be able to see the future?" My answer is an emphatic NO. I much prefer not knowing what my future might be. It's like reading a future chapter of a book before the story has unfolded. I'm happy to surrender control and experience my life and the world as it happens.
