walking along deserted
roads. nature's all around. trees
tall. I am backtracking. disoriented.
I am trying to find my way home? or
at least get my bearings to the ferry
terminal. I am lost. Talking to
her dad. he is harvesting something
from the side of the road. he points
me in the right direction although I
still feel lost. bright sunny day. Waiting
for the bus with my dad. I have
many bags slung over my shoulders.
when the bus comes I breathe on
the driver telling him I need a
moment to put down my bags to get my
change out. he mentions my strong chive
breath. I apologize. I find a place
on the crowded bus. my change
falls down the steps and onto the grass
outside the bus. I scurry to collect it
and get back on. At the terminal
waiting for the ferry. It's a long muddy
flood plain. the boats are able to
back up onto the mud and the cars
drive out forwards. I watch for
people I know, always consciously
looking for someone. the cars are
driving without drivers. a van
rolls along with a bouquet of flowers
in the driver's seat. no people inside.
I follow it with my eyes.
In the waiting room/giftshop there are
board games and rocks
and jewels inlaid into the walls. a very
posh giftshop for saltspring island. I
might buy a stone but do not seem
to have enough time to choose one.
