Sensations of extreem pleasure caught my attention, as my body moved through the air while I navigated a city scape at night. Every way that I would move my body, was so natural and fluid. Every movement invoked deep pleasure in my center, radiating outward. The air around my limbs and body was like warm tropical water, and the matter of my being was drifting elegantly through the space around me as though swimming. However all movement was so effortless that no distractions spared me from the immense pleasure of the experience. Suddenly realizing that this feeling was unique, brought my consciousness towards the ring. What world was this. I wear a ring, and have for many years. An inexpensive silver ring, marked "THAILAND" on the inner side of the band. The ring stylistically symbolises the mobius strip, that symbol of the infinite. A gift from a lover, whom remains deep in my heart, a love and affection undying. Through out each waking day, I routinely look upon my hands, and take notice of this ring. I remove the ring and feel it's smooth surface. Silver still warmed from my body. I rotate the ring 180º and place it back upon my left ring finger. There is no outwardly noticeable difference once the ring is replaced. The ring now appears the same upon my finger in it's new orientation as it was before. This ring symbolizes my marriage to the universe. My recognition that all is one, and infinite and of one source. However, this time, this ritual occurred in the dreaming. I immediately felt the rushing in, like a powerful celestial wind blowing straight down/up upon or through my astral body. Colors explode into vivid unimaginable brilliance. Sound and light are now fully apparent in this world. Writing, and typography are intelligible and present around me. I feel a need to seek a new location, but lack the energy to maintain my position, and soon fading away, awakened.
Like every closed circle, the ring is a symbol of continuity and wholeness. This is why (like the bracelet) it has been used both as a symbol of marriage
and of the eternally repeated time-cycle. Sometimes it occurs in animal form, as a
snake or an eel biting its tail (Ouroboros); sometimes as a pure geometrical form
(8, 20, 32). It is interesting to note that, in some legends, the ring is regarded as the
only remaining link of a chain. Thus, it is told that when Jupiter allowed Hercules
to rescue Prometheus, it was on condition that the latter should thereafter wear an
iron ring, set with a piece of rock from the Caucasus, as a symbol of submission
to his punishment (8). Another type of ring is found in the circle of flames
surrounding the dancing Shiva as he performs the cosmic dance; this flame-ring
can be related to the Zodiac. Like the Zodiac and the Ouroboros of the Gnostics,
it has an active and a passive half (evolution, involution), and stands for the lifecycle of both the universe and each individual being: the circular dance of nature
in eternal process of creation and destruction. At the same time, the light radiated
by the ring of flames symbolizes eternal wisdom and transcendental illumination
(60).

Of the four Elements, air and fire are regarded as active and male; water
and earth as passive and female. In some elemental cosmogonies, fire is given
pride of place and considered the origin of all things, but the more general belief is
that air is the primary element. Compression or concentration of air creates heat
or fire, from which all forms of life are then derived. Air is essentially related to
three sets of ideas: the creative breath of life, and, hence, speech; the stormy
wind, connected in many mythologies with the idea of creation; and, finally,
space as a medium for movement and for the emergence of life-processes. Light,
flight, lightness, as well as scent and smell, are all related to the general symbolism
of air (3). Gaston Bachelard says that for one of its eminent worshippers,
Nietzsche, air was a kind of higher, subtler matter, the very stuff of human
freedom. And he adds that the distinguishing characteristic of aerial nature is that
it is based on the dynamics of dematerialization. Thoughts, feelings and memories
concerning heat and cold, dryness and humidity and, in general, all aspects of
climate and atmosphere, are also closely related to the concept of air. According to
Nietzsche, air should be cold and aggressive like the air of mountain tops. Bachelard
relates scent to memory, and by way of example points to Shelley’s characteristic
lingering over reminiscences of smell.

Symbolically, the world is the realm in which a state of existence is
unfolded (25), comprising many component parts adhering together. Used in the
plural, the term pertains, in a sense, to space-symbolism, but the ‘worlds’ are
really only different modes of the spirit (26). The explanation of the cosmic and
moral significance of the three worlds (the infernal, the terrestrial and the celestial) is to be sought in the symbolism of level. The inferior must not always be
equated with the subterranean, for, in megalithic cultures, the latter was usually
located high up, or in the hollow interior of mountains (conceived as the dwellingplace of the dead). Guénon has pointed out that references to the ‘subterranean
world’ are found in a large number of cultural traditions, in which the ‘cult of the
cavern’ or cave is linked with that of the ‘centre’. One must also bear in mind the
equation of the cavern with the cave of the heart, the latter being considered as the
Centre of being or the Egg of the World (28).

Light, traditionally, is equated with the spirit (9). Ely Star asserts that
the superiority of the spirit is immediately recognizable by its luminous intensity. Light is the manifestation of morality, of the intellect and the seven virtues
(54). Its whiteness alludes to just such a synthesis of the All. Light of any given
colour possesses a symbolism corresponding to that colour, plus the significance
of emanation from the ‘Centre’, for light is also the creative force, cosmic energy irradiation (57). Symbolically, illumination comes from the East. Psychologically
speaking, to become illuminated is to become aware of a source of light, and, in
consequence, of spiritual strength (32).

In India, the sound of Krishna’s flute is the magical cause of the birth
of the world. The pre-Hellenic maternal goddesses are depicted holding lyres, and
with the same significance (56). There are other traditional doctrines which hold
that sound was the first of all things to be created, and that which gave rise to all
others, commencing with light, or, alternatively, with air and fire. An instance of
this is the lament quoted in the Poimandres of Hermes Trismegistos (31).
