The City Far Away (part 2 of 2)

After eating at Ihop with my family, I end up on the run from them. Not only am I on the run from my family, but I’m also on the run from people that want me dead. I have to keep away from my family to keep them safe. The Ihop turns into a huge hardware store, similar to Home Depot. I’m running around the isles trying to avoid being seen by my family, who are walking around with shopping carts looking for me.Apparently I’ve been missing for a month now, and that’s why they’re so worried.
Mom must have caught a glimpse of me, because no matter how casually I run away it seems that she’s always right behind me with her squeaky cart. So, to get her off my tail, I jump on this blue-barred, wheeled cart thing and push myself at great speeds, like a scooter. I’m able to get away from her, and swerve around some isles pretty well before I crash. Employees all come rushing to the scene. To avoid the attention I go through a door to the outside marked “employees only”.
It’s sundown right now- turning the sky dark purple and hot pink and orange. I get away from the door but the small yard I’ve walked into is surrounded by an electric, barbed wire fence. The porch area I walk on, hugging the building, is electrified too, but I don’t figure they’d have it turned on during business hours. I touch the silver wire and feel something unpleasant. I start to wonder if the porch one is on as well. I go around the corner to a another wider door, and find it’s a dead end. I go back, and I am in utter awe of the view I missed the first time I came outside. I was so focused on going around the building to get away, I didn’t look behind me. The view I face now is of the city. The towers silhouette in blues and silvery specks against the red, pink, orange, and yellow sky. It’s gorgeous. I find myself wishing I was there, in that city, instead of here. I want to be there so bad…
“Ma’am? Miss? You can’t be out here,” an employee says. As soon as he gets close to me I know that it’s no employee, but one of the men out to kill me in disguise. I have no choice but to play along as he leads me to the door. There’s a platform that you have to stand on, then select where you want the door to teleport you to with your foot on the touchscreen.
He tells me to wait by this platform while he teleports inside to get more “employees” to help him with me. I agree to it, but as soon as he’s gone I step onto the plate and quickly figure out the password. It takes a minute of fumbling but I figure out how to run the program. I press the option titled “hallway”, which doesn’t seem a likely place the man left to.
I zap there, and immediately feel trapped. It’s a long, full-of-corners hall of just hotel rooms. I don’t see any exit signs anywhere. How am I supposed to escape this building from here? I run down the hall, desperate to get out. I find a door marked hallway instead of room number after room number, but I need EXIT not just another maze of a hallway. I continue on but only come to a dead end. I back track to the “hallway” door and push through the swinging two way doors. I find a hall full of promiscuous women, and man asking for a minute of one of the girl’s time. I push my way to the end of the hall and find another platform.
I step onto it, and take more time in deciding where I’m going to go this time, since as far as I know, my location is undisclosed to the men trying to kill me- for now. I have the option of “alley” or “dark backstreet”. I get brief pictures this time, and decide on “alley”. I step into the picture it feels like, and it looks like I’ve stepped into a Final Fantasy game. The alley is actually a skybridge with cars riding around everywhere, people bustling, and a parade. The sun is just getting ready to set, it’s right on the horizon, casting an orange-yellow glow on everything. The colors in this place are vibrant and alive. God, it’s gorgeous.
Then, as I look over the city, I see the familiar skyline that I saw from the yard outside the Home Depot. A particular building, much like the Stanley Opera House only much larger, is unmistakable. I’m in the city that was once so far away! I’m actually here! I see a giant brown-red colored rat marching in the parade, in green African dress. I jump over to him. He’s an old friend of mine that I haven’t seen in years. I climb up onto his head and squeeze the giant creature into a hug. I more so just squeeze his loose skin than give him a hug, but it’s the best I can do. We greet and excitedly talk. I’m finally here… where I’ve always wanted to be. The city that was always so far away… and so much more beautiful up close. [End]
