Coclebur Porcupine, Tank Tank

I’m sitting on my bed talking to my mom who stands in the doorway. She interrupts our conversation to tell me to get a coclebur away from my dog Skye, who is about to get it stuck in his mouth. I climb out of bed and kneel next to Skye by my clothing closet. I take the coclebur from him to discover it’s not a coclebur at all- it’s a tiny little porcupine.
The porcupine has a lady bug stuck in its pines. I free the bug and try to carry the little porcupine by it’s needles out to the front yard. I feel like I’m hurting it by carrying it this way, but I don’t see another option to carry the spiky little guy.
He sucks in all of the needles other than the ones I carry him by. I reach the front yard and set him down in the grass. Slow he lets his needles come back out.
I revel in the morning air, the sun barely up, before I go back inside. Leon taunts me about Sam and Mary from the living room window. My heart sinks with pain at the mention of them. I run to the back yard, all the way out to the field, and stop at the edge. The sky is beautiful, lit with pinks, purples, and oranges reflecting off the clouds. I stand barefoot in the dead crop-littered dirt, looking at the sky in awe. I try to stand in the dirt patches that aren’t so filled with sticks and other brush so my feet won’t get hurt.
I run back toward the front yard again, ready to go inside, but stop halfway across the side of the house. Sight of a giant military tank is what stops me. It pull up in front of our house. It’s massive, at least the length of our house if not more. The back of the tank has a bed like a truck, only it’s just as gigantic as the tank and encased in glass like a fish tank. I run back to the back yard and go through the back door, which is thankfully unlocked. I almost wake up my mom, but figure I’d wait until I’m sure the truck is there for us. I peek out the front door’s window. Leon teases that my friend is part of the squad in the bed of the tank/truck thing. Sure enough I see that Donny is showing the neighbor boys from across the street where to get into the glass tank on the tank. Donny looks over to the door as though he wants to stop and say hello, which is what Leon’s rambling he said Donny said he’d do. I look away and sit on the couch between Leon and a friend, trying to look less conspicuous in case Donny does come to the door for a quick hi. Mom has woken up and goes to sit in her chair. I can see the front of the truck out of the living room window. On my last glance out the window, the truck is gone. I missed seeing it drive off because I was trying to act natural. Donny didn’t stop by, which is saddening. [End]

Relative to Real Life~
Night of October 2nd, 2014
Real-life characters: Skye, Mom, Leon, Sam, Mary, Donny, neighbor boy.
Dream-created characters: Porcupine, lady bug, other people in the tank’s tank.
Real-life places: My room, front yard, street, neighbors houses, back yard, field, back door, living room, front door.
Dream-created places: Inside the tank.
Different than real life: I don’t speak to Leon anymore, Leon hasn’t been in my house for years, he’s never thrown Sam and Mary in my face- probably because I never told him how hurt I am about them, I haven’t seen Donny in years, I don’t think porcupines stay/are that small, a tank of any size has never parked in front of my house.
Reasons:
Carrying porcupine the incorrect way and feeling like I’m causing it harm = I had read an article online the day before this dream about the proper way to carry a turtle. I learned that carrying it by it’s tail (who would want to do that anyways?) can cause spinal damage. (The proper way fyi is to hold him in the middle by his shell like a hamburger, not to tight, and keep him horizontal. Watch for claws and it’s snapper because those can be sharp.)
Reoccurring: Skye interacting with a Porcupine is a reoccurring theme. http://dreamcatcher.net/zurastar/17220
Precognitive: No experiences yet.
Notes: I read that porcupines in dreams represent the “need to look out for yourself and protect yourself from emotional or psychological harm”. I believe both dreams which have this Skye-and-porcupine theme occurred when I was having issues with my dad. I can relate Skye as the more fragile, emotional part of me that I wish to protect, and the porcupine symbolizes my dad/me wanting to protect my fragile self from him.
Precognitive: No experiences yet.
