I participate in a school-lead trash pick up. All of the group eat in the lunch room of the high school, sitting together with their teams. My group is Mrs. Lishtivitz’s. I sit next to Samantha, Bell, Landra, and Luna. Mary shows up late, and Mrs. Lishtivitz scolds her. I thought that Mary would come sit by me in the seat to my right, which I saved for her, but she sits at the first empty seat she comes to. I lean toward her and ask her why she sits a table away, and she says that Mrs. Lishtivitz was watching her and she didn’t feel comfortable sitting where she wants after being told off for being late. Cory takes the seat next to me.
After eating, Luna asks me about the spider ordeal in the basement. I tell her it’s all fixed now. She asks me to follow her, so I do. She leads me to her dad’s living room, which is actually my dad’s living room, and takes me to a portal behind the tall entertainment center. The portal spits us out in the senior hall, which this year is apparently what I know as the freshman hallway.
Luna explains that she just wants to visit her sister who’s in the Spanish classroom, but a group of boys blacks the door and won’t let her through. I say I can handle it.
Since I’m the same age as these seniors, if not older, they don’t intimidate me at all. Luna is only a sophomore, and her sister is a junior. I stride down the hall and get up in one of the boy’s face. He backs down. I look into Mr. Donie’s class room (which is now the room that was being blacked rather than the Spanish room) and see Luna hiding in the corner. I step into the class and ask if Luna’s sister is there. The sister stands. I tell the sister that Luna wanted to visit.
Luna’s a shy cat now, still hiding in the corner. She dashes beneath the TV at the head of the class. The teacher tries to get her to roar, but when she doesn’t he says, “That trick died”.
The sister thanks me for helping
Luna come visit, and me and Luna leave. I run after her through the now-empty hall and back to the entertainment center portal. In the time it takes me to catch up, I lose her. I figure she went outside, but the portal won’t let me out there since it’s not lunch hour anymore. I go where it lets me, hoping that it will take me to where Luna went. It lets me out to the upstairs hallway at school. I don’t see Luna, but I know I’m late for class. [End]
