I barely manage to get through a dark, rubbled area full of clicker zombies. Once I’m on the other side, I find my beagle Lily laying in a blanket. I thought she died- I thought I had lost her forever, but here she is! I hug her until I realize there’s no way for me to get her back to the safehouse. I cover her up with the blanket and tell her to stay, praying that she’ll still be here once I come back from checking the area for a way around the clicker-filled room.
Now I’m in the house with Skye and Mom. Skye runs out the front yard when Mom has a smoke at the door, and spots a zombie that was limping his way across the lawn. I scream for Skye to come back, but the scream doesn’t leave my throat like I want it to. Skye runs over to the zombie and bites the newspaper under his arm. I run out the door, wielding a knife, which I use to stab into the zombie’s face. The zombie falls, but stands back up was I try to catch Skye because I didn’t get the brain, apparently. This happens a couple more times before I finally stab his temple and reach his brain. I gather up Skye and run inside. I hold my dog, knowing that he must be infected after taking the infected plastic-covered newspaper into his mouth. It’s only a matter of time before he turns now. I sob as I cradle him.
I’m at my aunt and uncles house now, teaching the beta fish in tanks how to count by placing my fingers into the water and letting them swim around. I’m standing by the sink. I can see the city out the window above the sink. It’s night time, but I can see the outline of sky scrapers, lit by street lights and car headlights.
Now I’m at a garage sale. I am making my way to the back where my trailer house is. I pick up two plastic corn-cob halves that have large pale yellow, regular yellow, and brown kernels. I enter my trailer. I sit at the table with a little girl, who wants to share her milkshakes like a tea-party of sorts. She pours the milkshakes into dirty glasses, but the worst part is the straws are used. The straws are full of milkshake from last time, which is all dried from being left in the heat. I squeeze the old dried stuff out of my straw, and see it’s littered with seeds. I manage to take the little girl’s straw too before she can ingest any of the icky substance.
The adults in the trailer start to argue. One of the men is cheating on one of the women. Trying to figure out what happened with who, when, and why- feels a lot like the game Clue. I hold onto the guy-sitting-next-to-me’s knees as I crawl over him to get out of the booth. [End]
